The Apple of Discord

Full name : Arthur “Art” Fenton Castle

Occupation: Graphic designer and ad copy writer, part time philosopher, movie geek,

Appearance: Darker skinned caucasian, medium-length brown hair, normally sports a van dyke goatee.  Has a dark red shirt with a yellow something (started out an ø, has changed a few times since) on the front.

Personality: Art is a somewhat bitter 30-something struggling to find his place in the world.  A former “Gen-X-er” who has become disallusioned with his own original ideals, he constantly struggles to remain optimistic but is more than willing to resort to sarcasm and dry wit as his main line of defense against the horrors of the world.  Likes scifi and horror, especially “bad” movies (think Mystery Science Theatre 3000).  Big fan of table-top gaming, dislikes online gaming.

Relationships:  He’s straight and and in a fairly committed relationship with Leaf.  Arthur has a sister named Connie and a brother named Doyle – making them “Artur, Connie, Doyle”, much to their parent’s amusement.

Powers and Abilities:  Arthur hasn’t displayed much in the way of “powers”, but if you’re using him in a super hero, magic, or fantasy style comic, he has been seen to wield some basic wizardish spells (ala Dungeons and Dragons).

Termination of Employment

Arthur was the official main character of The Apple of Discord for it’s first year (2008-2009) but during the course of the year several new, more interesting characters rose through the ranks to replace him, making him more and more aware of his dwindling place in the comic itself.  During the course of the comic “The Taxed Man” Art finds out that he, the de facto main character, is not getting paid while several of the supporting cast are.  Management offers to start paying Art on the condition that he and Leaf move to the “Supporting Cast” section to make room for better characters.

Art responded by quitting.

During his time off, he traveled the Webcomic Universe for several months, appearing in Crossing Death as well as a few less reputable locations (like here and here) before eventually returning home a calmer and more sedate character.
